Big Gorilla and Mini-Gorilla were two monsters the Shadow devised to test 01's strength in order to learn how to destroy him. After 01 destroyed Big Gorilla, Bijinda, not realising what she was doing, helped to transform Mini-Gorilla into a second, more powerful Big Gorilla. (Big Gorilla and Big Gorilla 2 were voiced by Watabe, Takeshi who would also provide the voices of Shadow Knight and Waruda.)

The original Big Gorilla was designed simply to test 01's powers. It was very strong and took little damage from 01's attacks until "Blast End" destroyed it. Big Gorilla had a machine gun weapon in its right arm. Mini-Gorilla wasn't a fighter, it recorded information on 01's powers while 01 fought Big Gorilla. Big Gorilla II was resistant to 01's combat techniques and might have defeated 01 if Bijinda hadn't helped 01.
