Both the Hakaida Squad and the Shadow wanted to build an indestructable
machine, the Giant Devil robot, in order to conquer the earth. The
plans for this robot was written with special ink on the backs of two
boys Akira and Hiroshi, who are eventually revealed to be the sons of
Professor Gill.
The Shadow actually began construction of Giant Devil. Its head, which
could seperate from the body, to fly around dropping bombs, was
completed first. It was a test of the head which alerted Kikaida 01 and
Kikaida to the existance of Giant Devil, and before Shadow could
complete the massive robot the Kikaida brothers combined their power to
destroy it.
