With giant monsters appearing everywhere, the United Nations created the Universal Monster Control Center, a large scale military force to respond to monster attacks. The elite response team under UMCC is SAM -- SPECIAL ARMS MEMBERS. Their mission is to be the first on the scene and use the most sophisticated and devastating weaponry to destroy all monsters.

CAPTAIN ODAKA

The patriarch of this little family is sleepy-eyed Captain Odaka. He isn't on much. Pretty good at delegating, I'd say. Has a good relationship with all the members. Likes to sneak a few dance steps here and there. His overall sleepy look is good for hiding the fact that he may actually BE sleeping, as he did once while listening to a superior officer. Almost gets canned in episode 5.

ARAI

The big haired protagonist. Arai is the human form of Line The Barbarian. I am uncertain whether he is bonded with the giant or is himself Line. Not exactly a barrel of laughs, but occasionally smiles and has the hots for Yabuki. Mostly just broods about looking moody. Gets into fistfights with his best friend Tatsumi, aka Rambo Girl.

YABUKI

The "cute" girl of the show. The actress is really a good actress but her looks don't convince. In the first episode she wears a beret outside and her uniform is too big for her. Changes hair quite often and gets to have fun with a dual role in episode 9.

TATSUMI (a.k.a. RAMBO GIRL)

The tough girl of the show. A very convincing portrayal by the actress. Tomboyish Tatsumi is just "one of the guys" in SAM, tough as nails, with a soft spot for Arain. She loves him like a brother and gets into bloody fights with him for kicks.

GOUDA

Cheesy Bruce Lee wannabe, spends a lot of time with his shirt off, showing off his well defined muscles. Not as big as the steroid version of Line, though.

HOSHINO

Hoshino is not in every episode, but he is SAM's communications officer. Effete and glib, he wears way too much make-up. Likes to give shoulder massages to the male members of SAM. I don't think I can be any clearer.

SAM Car

SAM uses mostly the SAM car to get around. Sometimes they just run since their base is in downtown Tokyo and the monsters like going there.

SAM Base

An odd looking building, really huge. Yet the command room is actually quite small. There is only one side ever shown, full of video screens...and for no good reason, tons of video equipment in the wall.
